Here's What's Happening This Weekend

Start planning your pre-Christmas weekend with some help from Patch.

Here are some things to know about the weekend before Christmas, Dec. 20-22, in and around Bristol and Warren:  

Sign up on Saturday, Dec. 21, at 9 am for the winter session of story times at Rogers Free Library in Bristol, which run from Jan. 6 to Feb.13. Programs for 2- and 3-year olds are held on Mondays and Tuesdays at 9:30 (choose one). A program for 4- and 5-year olds is held Thursday mornings at 9:30. Children must be the appropriate age for their group at registration time. Siblings under the age of one are welcome at these story times.

Festival Ballet Providence presents four performances of “The Nutcracker” this weekend, Friday at 8 pm, Saturday at 2 and 7 pm, and Sunday at 1:30 pm, at the Providence Performing Arts Center, 220 Weybosset St. Buy tickets at www.PPACRI.org, by calling 401-421-ARTS, or in person at PPAC.

The Baptist Church in Warren continues the celebration of its founding 250 years ago with a renewal of its speakers series on Sunday morning. The Rev. Tom Wiles, executive minister for the American Baptist Churches of Rhode Island, will talk at the 10 am worship service of the church on the corner of Main and Miller streets.

Take a short drive to Tiverton on Saturday for a Living Nativity by the St. Theresa’s Church youth group. It starts at 5 pm after the 4 pm Mass on the front lawn at 265 Stafford Road.

If your pre-Christmas weekend includes Monday, Dec. 23, head on over to the Rogers Free Library, 525 Hope St., Bristol for a holiday sing-along with Owen Trainor, who will be at the keyboard to lead traditional songs of the season.  Cookies and punch will be served.
