Your Guide: Coggeshall Farm Harvest Fair

It's the 40th year for the Bristol farm's annual celebration.

This weekend in Bristol, the Coggeshall Farm Museum hosts one the area's best-known events, the 40th Annual Harvest Fair, set for Sept 14 and 15.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

Hewing to the theme of "unplugged," the event includes 18-century games and competitions, like the hay bale toss, sack races, and watermelon seed-spitting contests. The height of the event, though, will surely be the muck boot fashion show.

Visitors can also learn [or practice] how to milk a cow, see craftsmen demonstrations, hear Trua perform acoustic traditional music, and enjoy dances by the Ladies of the Rolling Pin.

The museum will be open for visitors to explore, including the original farmhouse and other buildings.

Several local artisans are also expected to set up their wares for sale over the weekend.

It's the biggest fundraiser on the farm's annual calendar, so be sure to head down Poppasquash Road and follow the signs to Coggeshall Farm.

Adult admission is $8; kids and seniors $5, kids under 3 free.
