Letter: Level-funding May Spur Lawsuit

School Committee members express support for the school district's efforts to receive greater investment from Warren.

Fellow Warren residents and taxpayers, We, the Warren representatives of the Bristol-Warren Regional School Committee, wanted to take this time to address the school-related issues that have been discussed in our local newspapers, social media sites and coffee houses. While we recognize that the town of Warren is in a tough financial state, it is important to provide some facts to counteract the misconceptions that are out there so that we can all make informed decisions at the Warren Town Financial Meeting at Kickemuit Middle School on May 21.  Regarding the Regionalization Bonus, the BW Regional School District did receive additional funds from the state when the two towns regionalized. This was meant to be a short-term funding source to…

I think that we have three people that really should be ashamed of themselves for not supporting the Town over the School Districts antiquated agreement. This same agreement will eventually be the demise of Warren if not corrected in the near future. When will people learn to stop throwing money at things as a fix for a much greater problem. What everyone forgets is the general public "never" …   more ›

Mount Hope Ranks 12th in State

U.S. News and World Report ranked the regional high school 12th among 59 Rhode Island public and charter high schools that qualified for the list.

Mount Hope High School is the 12th ranked high school in Rhode Island and has received national recognition, according to U.S. News and World Reports' Best High School List. Mount Hope ranked at or above state averages in every key indicator the magazine used in compiling its rankings of nearly 22,000 high schools in 49 states and the District of Columbia. The school's 12:1 student-to-teacher ratio and college readiness (measured by the number of students who took and passed AP exams) are at state averages. Sixteen percent of students took the exam; 13 percent passed, the magazine reports. In creating its list, U.S. News and World Report relied heavily on standardized test results. Mount Hope met state averages in math with 34 percent of …

Congratulations to Mt. Hope High School! Quite an accomplishment! I hope that the two communities can find a way to work together, and understand that the communities have very different demographics and this must be taken into consideration with budgetary issues. Please ... no lawsuits!! It will not help the situation.   more ›

Letter: Outstanding Performance by Mt. Hope Masqueraders

A review of the school play "Beauty and the Beast" submitted by Michelle Mascena.

It was an Encore Performance from the Mt. Hope Masqueraders with their production of "Beauty and the Beast". Every actor controlled their about opening night jitters and turned in an outstanding performance.   This is a must see play for the whole family. Ava Callery is the perfect Belle. Tom Hanson is the perfect Beast. Both having vocal training, sang their songs beautifully. It is great casting of the enchanted household staff with Lumiere, played by Alex O'Hanley, entertaining the audience with his delightful voice and his witty banter. The object of his fun bantering was going on with Babbette played by Makaela Impagliazza. The actors had very good stage chemistry together.  Cogsworth, played by CJ Gerhard , performed brilliantly in …
