An online petition has received more than 1,000 signatures from residents throughout New England who would like to see a legal drag strip built in Rhode Island.
Rhode Island drag racing enthusiasts are petitioning for the State Senate to designate an area of land for a legal drag strip. An online petition on Change.org has gained a quick following this month, with supporters pushing for the state to allow a private investor to build the designated space. According to Providence resident Joshua Upham, who started the petition, our state has been the home of "many accidents (sometimes fatal) of illegal street racers." "These 'Street Races' are dangerous, Illegal, and a nuisance to the citizen's of Rhode Island," he writes in the petition. Consequently, he wants to "persuade the State of Rhode Island to set aside a slot of land to build a drag racing strip where legal drag-racing can occur." …

The wind and some uncharacteristic poor Husky defense lead to a 16-9 Huskies loss Monday vs. EWG. Joe Simeone started for the Huskies and went 2.1 inning. Simeone appeared to pitch himself out of a jam in the second, when with 1 out and the bases loaded, induced two grounds balls; both led to errors opening the way to an 8 run second. The Huskies mounted a comeback with 4 runs in the fourth on doubles by Josh Hunt, Matt Natale and a fielders choice by Brent Millard. The Huskies added an additional run in the fifth on a single by Jared Ramos but that was the end of the scoring. Matt Natale and Cody Stanzione pitched well in relief. Joe Simeone had two more hits to lead the Huskies. Report and photos submitted by Mt. Hope High School Head…

A recap of the Mt. Hope Baseball team's starting game and outline of key players provided by Head Coach Bob Millard.
This year, the Mt. Hope Huskies 2012 Baseball team looks ahead to a promising year and will be anchored by a solid pitching staff. Seniors Joe Simeone and Cody Stanzione and the return of Junior Jeremy Securo will provide the Huskies with three solid starting pitchers. Senior catcher Kyle Mello, Junior first baseman Josh Hunt and Junior Corey Gendreau have also proven to be reliable in early scrimmage games. The Huskies are fortunate to have two very good catchers. Kyle Melo will see the majority of the action behind the plate; he is a top defensive catcher and will bat clean-up. Cody Stanzione will replace Melo behind the plate, and is an equally good defensive catcher. When not pitching or catching, Stanzione will be the third baseman…
