Looking for something fun and educational for the kids to do this summer? Rhody Ramble offers kids the chance to explore and learn about some of the most historic sites in Bristol, Warren and throughout the state. Rhody Ramble offers families with kids aged 5-12 an opportunity to explore 21 historic Rhode Island places this summer. The Rhody Ramble is a program of the Historic Sites Coalition of Rhode Island, which is led by Preserve Rhode Island. The program is a summer adventure where kids follow mascot Rhody the Rambler (a RI Red rooster) around the state. The results are in and the winner for the Patch Reader's Choice: Best place to spend a summer stay-cation on the East Bay is Bristol's Blithewold Mansion, Gardens & Arboretum! While there are dozens of great places to visit in our tourist-friendly state, readers resoundingly chose Blithewold as the best in the region, as 40 percent of voters gave the mansion their support. Coming in second was Coggeshall Farm Museum, also in Bristol, followed by followed by Mount Hope Farm. Blithewold is an expansive Queen Ann mansion and garden overlooking Bristol Harbor, preserved in its turn-of-the-20th-century style. The following was submitted by Ava Mascena, a member of the Mt. Hope Masqueraders. Cast members from the Mt. Hope Masqueraders Production of “Beauty and the Beast” entertained participants of the “Be our Guest Tea” held on Sunday, April 22, at Blithewold by singing songs from the Disney Musical and assisting the staff by serving at the tea while in character. Julie Murphy, the Education Coordinator at Blithewold., was very helpful in arranging this Masqueraders community service event. It was a partnership between Blithewold Mansion and the Masqueraders to help gain more community involvement experience and to help increase the public awareness of the Mt. Hope Theatre Department. The group meets weekly on Tuesdays at Tiverton's Sakonnet Bay Manor and once a month at Blithewold in Bristol.
Each week a group of people from all over the region congregate at the Game Room in Sakonnet Bay Manor and every first Friday of the month, they gather at Blithewold Mansion. Like clockwork, people gather to spend the afternoon highly engaged in what has brought them together: the Chinese game of MahJongg. MahJongg is a complex yet simple game. It is played with small, rectangular tiles marked with different distinguishing symbols. Like the popular American game Scrabble, a person’s tiles are placed on a rack, simultaneously presenting one’s own tiles to them, like a hand of cards while hiding their “hand” from other players. Each participant also has a card in front of them with the current year’s playable hands, which is necessary …

Blithewold Mansion, Gardens and Arboretum ushur in Spring with a celebration of daffodils and atfernoon tea.
Spring has sprung in Bristol with the annual celebration of the Daffodil, the ubiquitous flower seen in many a garden. At Blithewold Gardens, Mansion and Arboretum however, the flower takes center stage for three weeks this month, planted in rhythmic formation throughout the grounds, drawing you along pathways and encouraging your imagination to drift back to a time gone by. In addition to strolling the gardens, enjoy "Afternoon Tea" Wednesday through Friday thorughout the Daffodil Days celebration, 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Reservations for Tea are encouraged.
