On Oct. 1, the East Bay Warriors Cheerleaders hosted a breast cancer awareness game. All proceeds were donated to the Gloria Gemma Foundation. Local vendors rented space on the field and raffle baskets were raffled off throughout the day. Cheerleaders sold bracelets and light up pins for the foundation and handed out resource booklets. Shirts were made up with the slogan, "I'm a Warrior", and they are still being sold. The lfield was lined in pink with painted pink bows. Approximately 150 pink balloons were lined around the field and at each half time a survivor ceremony was held, allowing an opportunity for survivors to come down on the field and receive a pink ribbon, carnation and balloon. Laurie Cordeiro's short, thinned purple hair shimmered in the sun as she glanced at the powerful words inscribed on the side of the pink Hope Bus. Fixed on the word "strength," she smiled wide. "I think everyone has this inside of them, but they don’t always know it's there," Cordeiro said. "It's not until you are pushed to your utmost limit that you realize, you can do anything." Cordeiro, 49, of Bristol, has been battling a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer for two years, but her condition and even her chemotherapy can't keep her from helping others and living her life to the fullest. The group at L'atelier on Cutler Street in Warren dedicated their Saturday to fighting breast cancer.
The women of L'atelier Hair Salon dedicated their day Saturday to fighting breast cancer and raising awareness for the disease. The studio held a "cut-a-thon" Saturday, July 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds were donated to the Gloria Gemma Foundation, a breast cancer resource foundation that offers a number of services to those with breast cancer, including breast health education and awareness programs, drop-in support groups, and spa services.
