Bristol Gets Tall Ship Preview

The Picton Castle will dock in Bristol Harbor for 11 days, starting this weekend, before heading to Newport for the Tall Ships Festival.

Before the hundreds of majestic ships sail into Newport Harbor for the Tall Ships Festival, Bristol will get a preview of the hugely popular event. The Picton Castle, a three-masted tall ship based in Nova Scotia, Canada, will be docked in Bristol Harbor from June 23 through July 4. Bristol Town Dock Master Joe Cabral will be hosting the ship and its crew on the west side of the Church Street dock for the entire stay. The Picton Castle, with Captain Daniel Moreland and 25-30 crew members, will arrive for the 11-day stay in Bristol Harbor before continuing on to Newport for the Ocean State Tall Ships Festival. Public Workshop Keeps Mooring Fees Docked

A special workshop involving increased fees made no new progress on Wednesday night.

Boat owners who use the Bristol town docks and moorings had an opportunity to voice their opinions on the possible rise of fees they may be charged in the near future on Wednesday night, but the Town Council is no closer to a final decision than at the last meeting. About 30 people showed up for the special workshop held by the Bristol Town Council at Town Hall, many to voice their opinions in opposition to the fee increase. Earlier this year, the Harbormaster and Assistant Harbormaster evaluated the current costs and researched the fees from several other communities before suggesting to increase the Bristol fees nearly 50 percent.
