Caped Crusader Delivers Money to Soup Kitchen

Bristol Good Neighbors gets a surprise donation.

If you saw a masked crusader wearing a cape and propeller-style beanie in downtown Bristol yesterday, you weren’t hallucinating. Turns out he was here to surprise folks at the Bristol Good Neighbors Soup Kitchen with some cash, and Patch caught it all on camera. “The Secret Ambassador” works on behalf of Double D Diner, a virtual online restaurant where donors buy meals they don’t eat in order to help feed the hungry. Residents 'Rock the Can' for Local Food Pantry

"Rock the Can" benefit raises money for East Bay Food Pantry.

Locals rocked out at Jacky’s Galaxie on Friday night for the East Bay Food Pantry’s Second Annual “Rock the Can” fundraiser. Even the “Can Man,” EBFP’s big orange mascot, could be seen shaking his, well, can. Three bands – The Repercussions, Band of Brothers, and MEPOS - donated their time to entertain the audience with classic rock tunes, while Jacky’s Galaxie donated the space and an extensive spread of food. 94HJY did free preliminary advertising and radio DJ Kevin Mulhearn kept things moving as host of the event.  Jodi Leffingwell, EBFP’s Chairperson of the Board, organized “Rock the Can” with help from Executive Director Anita Randall and volunteers. Giving is Your Gift

Helping out non-profit organizations is necessary year-round, not just at the holidays. Nonetheless, with the spirit of giving in the air, now is a great time to make a difference in someone's life. On top of making you feel good, volunteering can improve your health. According to the Corporation for National and Community Service, volunteers "have lower mortality rates, greater functional ability, and lower rates of depression."
