Trick-Or-Treating: Residents Without Power Not Sure What To Do

Should those in dark neighborhoods postpone Halloween activities, or head to other, powered, areas?

There's scary, and there's SCARY. Trick-or-treating without light of any kind (street lights, house lights, etc.) may be a bit much. So those residents without power are wondering what to do? One idea is to travel to a neighborhood with power. Another is to postpone Halloween for a day or two or three. While Rhode Island hasn't taken that step — which is being considered in states hit harder — Gov. Lincoln Chafee issued a press release encouraging caution tonight.  "Our state is still dealing with the effects of Hurricane Sandy. These include extensive damage to roadways and sidewalks, fallen trees, downed power lines, and widespread power outages. Anyone out — whether driving or on foot — in areas with debris and without power must …

I feel badly for those without power. Last year we were without for 4 days. That said, @ 3pm, isn't it a little too late to cancel or reschedule in towns that primarily have power? Will Sandy Impact Your Halloween Plans?

With the hurricane heading up the coast, will the storm make you remove your Halloween decorations?

With Hurricane Sandy's path possibly heading toward Rhode Island, many are wondering if the storm will impact their Halloween plans.  As of Thursday morning, it looked like Sandy's path was unlikely to drift away from the area, and she could arrive as early as Monday or Tuesday.  "There is a consensus forming in weather forecast models that Hurricane Sandy is unlikely to go out to sea," according to The Washington Post.  Some towns have already ordered the removal of all outdoor signs in preparation for the storm. This makes us wonder:  Will you remove your Halloween decorations from your yard? What about political signs? Tell us your thoughts in the comment section below!

Record Pumpkin Displayed at Warren Weigh-off

Coventry farmer Ron Wallace now holds the record for largest and second largest pumpkin in the world.

Greene resident Ron Wallace spent Saturday afternoon at Frerichs Farm in Warren at the annual Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off. This was the second pumpkin contest that Wallace attended this month, the first one being at the Topsfield Fair in Massachusetts last Friday where his pumpkin "The Freak II" broke the world record for largest pumpkin when it weighed-in at 2,009 pounds. Because of its circumference and measurements, Wallace was hoping "The Pleasure Dome" would beat his newly-claimed world record on Saturday. But after weighing in at 1,872 pounds, his original record still stands. "The Pleasure Dome" is still awe-inspiring, being the largest pumpkin that Frerichs Farm has ever had on-site and the second largest recorded pumpkin in the world…
