Is it too early to take down the Christmas decorations? Some families traditionally take down their holiday decorations on New Year's Day, while others wait until much later in the month and much, much later, too. On Tuesday, the Christmas trees that were placed next to everyone's green bins full of wrapping paper made it apparent that many people had spent the long weekend cleaning up and gearing up for a new year. On Facebook, we asked users when they plan to take down their decorations. A few agreed that the first week in January is a good time to pack it up for the year and another user expressed his frustration that stores have long since packed up everything Christmas related and are already pushing Valentines Day items. Bristol business owner shares her dos and don'ts for losing weight.
For many, "losing weight" or "being healthier" are toward the top of New Year's resolution lists, but one local business owner hopes to clarify the difference between simply dropping the weight and doing it the correct and safe way. Below, Kara Rocha, owner of Nutrition 4 Life, in Bristol, shared her list of the top five rules that any person who is trying to lose weight should follow. The 1st Annual Winter Wish Swim drew a crowd to Bristol Town Beach.
A large group of scantily clad locals started off 2012 with a shock to the system as they dipped into the frigid waters of the bay on New Year’s Day morning at Bristol Town Beach. Though some had come on their own, most were there for the 1st annual Winter Wish Swim 2012, a fundraiser benefiting Children’s Wishes, a Warwick-based non-profit that grants wishes to Rhode Island children with life-threatening illnesses. Executive Director Dana Hrabcsak, who founded Children’s Wishes two years ago, collected $20 donations from participants and handed out mugs, while Ben DeCastro, promotions director at Cardi’s Furniture, gave out brochures about the organization. This Christmas week has been much milder (and drier) than last year.
The past few days have been pretty mild in Bristol and Warren, but last year at this time many residents were still snow blowing and shoveling themselves out of their homes.
