Tuesday, January 1
It's Jan. 1, which means it's time for the resolution dance. It starts lively. We boot bad habits, turn to good ones and leap into the year. Some folks start the year by jumping into the chilly Atlantic — or simply watching. Calendar pages flip and some forge patterns anew — exercing daily, eating salads and spurning fatty foods or cigarettes; and some return to familiar footing and the dance reverts to old rhythms. What about a collective resolution? What resolution would you like Bristol and Warren to accomplish? Maybe it's more of something — or less. Or it might be a clear-cut goal to make the towns better. What would it be? What resolution would you like your town to make — and keep? Let us know in the comments section below.

The 1st Annual Winter Wish Swim drew a crowd to Bristol Town Beach.
A large group of scantily clad locals started off 2012 with a shock to the system as they dipped into the frigid waters of the bay on New Year’s Day morning at Bristol Town Beach. Though some had come on their own, most were there for the 1st annual Winter Wish Swim 2012, a fundraiser benefiting Children’s Wishes, a Warwick-based non-profit that grants wishes to Rhode Island children with life-threatening illnesses. Executive Director Dana Hrabcsak, who founded Children’s Wishes two years ago, collected $20 donations from participants and handed out mugs, while Ben DeCastro, promotions director at Cardi’s Furniture, gave out brochures about the organization. DeCastro said Cardi’s has supported the organization at various fundraisers, and …

New Years morning brings a full house to Warren’s Sunnyside Restaurant.
The Sunnyside was more than just a name this morning. Despite the early hour on Jan. 1, servers at Warren's Sunnyside Daytime Dining were typically cheery as they doled out smiles and plates of delicious food as part of the Second Annual Pajama Brunch. They, along with kitchen staff and patrons, donned a variety of sleepwear in honor of the event. When asked about getting up early on New Year's Day for work, bartender Jami Thompson joked, "It was one less step this morning." Almost all the early customers accompanied children, who ate free if they wore pajamas. Adults in pajamas received a free…

I'd like to see the shops in downtown Bristol and Warren stay open at night, Sundays and later on Saturday evenings, so the working people (and those with money to spend) can have the opportunity to shop locally. I'd love to be able to browse the shops prior to enjoying a great meal, but I never see any open. I simply forget they are there.   more ›
