'East Bay Icebreakers' Take the New Year Plunge
The Mt. Hope swim team and local residents jumped into the frigid water at the Bristol Town Beach on New Years morning.
The East Bay Icebreakers had it easy this year as the weather on New Years morning could easily melt any ice. By 10:45 a.m., most people were already stripping down to bathing suits and shivering, but not from the cold air. "I'm not looking forward to this," said 14 year old swimmer Adam Dutra as he wrapped his arms around himself. "It's going to be cold!" According to Al Alix, the New Years plunge tradition started about 8 years ago when he and Mt. Hope swim Coach Jonathan Dell got together and decided that driving to Newport and other various beaches to do the plunge was a waste of time.
