RI Trooper Honored for Bombing Response

The state trooper talks of the first moments after the explosions, hopes to check in with people he helped.

Smithfield's Roupen Bastajian, a RI State Trooper running the Boston Marathon, exhausted after finishing the race, lept to the aid of bombing victims when two blasts struck bystanders April 15. Last week, Bastajian was honored for his actions that day aiding people with severed and lacerated limbs without a second thought upon hearing the blasts. The RI State Police awarded Bastajian with their highest honor, the service ribbon, which the trooper wore during a Monday morning press conference. Yesterday morning, he spoke about it for the first time since during a press conference. Bastajian said before the explosions, he'd been requesting medical attention himself, since he'd just finished running 26.2 miles with little advance training. …

State Police To Add Additional Patrols During Holidays

Additional enforcement will start this Friday and continue through Jan. 2.

Drive safe and sober this hioday season; the state police are cracking down. RI State Police Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell announced Tuesday that his troopers will be stepping up enforcement for the holidays, beginning Friday, Dec. 14th and continuing through and including Wednesday, Jan. 2. The troopers will be participating in the following two (2) traffic enforcement mobilization details: The State Police will have additional patrols targeting aggressive driving, seat belt and child restraint violations, texting violations and especially impaired drivers. State Police Out In Force Thanksgiving holiday.

The Rhode Island State Police, through funding obtained by the Department of Transportation Office on Highway Safety, will be participating in the national “Click It or Ticket Campaign” during the Thanksgiving Holiday. The primary message is: Buckle Up America, Every Trip, Every Time. In an effort to prevent highway tragedies during the holidays, the Rhode Island State Police is reminding Rhode Islanders that troopers will be maintaining high visibility throughout the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend with patrols targeting impaired or intoxicated drivers, seat belt and child restraint violations, aggressive drivers, speeding violations, texting violations, and everyday traffic violations. Prison Escapee Arrested in Bristol

Armin B. Christian had reportedly been on the run for more than 30 years after his escape from a South Carolina prison.

A South Carolina prison escapee on the run for more than 30 years reportedly chose Bristol as his hideout until his arrest Wednesday. Armin B. Christian, 65, of 289 High St., Bristol, had reportedly been on the run since he escaped from a South Carolina prison on Dec. 25, 1980. Christian was wanted on a South Carolina Department of Corrections warrant for a charge of Escape from a Correctional Facility. Christian had been sentenced in November 1980 to eleven months for Domestic/Non-Payment of Child Support. Members of the State Police Violent Fugitive Task Force and Bristol police tracked Christian, arresting him Wednesday about 8:45 a.m. as he was leaving the High Street home, according to Colonel Steven G.
