Stabbing Victim Identified, Remembered As 'Good Person'

The woman, who died after being stabbed on a RIPTA bus Wednesday, worked at several area Subway shops.

  Portsmouth Police have identified the woman who was fatally stabbed shortly after boarding a Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) bus early Wednesday morning.  The victim has been identified as Terry Chiodo, 46, of Portsmouth.  Portsmouth police say Chiodo boarded the RIPTA bus in front of the Portsmouth Multi Purpose Senior Center on Bristol Ferry Road.  At 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, Portsmouth police were called to the overlook on West Main Road near Lehigh Terrace in regards to a reported stabbing.  The overlook is less than a mile from where Chiodo boarded the bus.  "When police arrived on scene, they learned that a 46-year-old female resident of Portsmouth had been stabbed by a male passenger shortly after she boarded the bus," …

The Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence says stabbing death is a stark reminder "that we have a long way to go to achieve a Rhode Island that is free of domestic violence."

RIPTA Bus Stabbing Suspect Arraigned on Murder Charge

The suspect, Christopher James, was arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Second District Court.

  A Providence man arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly stabbing a Portsmouth woman on a Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) bus, was arraigned later in the day in Second District Court, Newport.  Christopher R. James, 46, with a last known address of 207 Rhodes St., Providence, was charged with first-degree domestic murder, according to WPRO. He did not enter a plea at his arraignment, according to the article.  He is also being held without bail pending a hearing, reports The Providence Journal.  The Journal also released the identity of the victim despite investigators withholding this information pending family notification. RIPTA Passenger Stabbed to Death on Bus [UPDATED]

Police were seen boarding a RIPTA passenger bus early Wednesday morning on West Main Road near Carnegie Tower in Portsmouth.

  Updated at 1:25 p.m. Wednesday: A Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) passenger was stabbed to death early Wednesday morning on a bus in Portsmouth, reports WPRI.com.  Several early commuters drove by the RIPTA bus, which was seen stopped on West Main Road near the overlook at Lehigh Terrace.  "On Feb. 27, at approximately 6:15 a.m. Portsmouth police were called to the area of West Main Road near Willow Lane in regards to a reported stabbing that occurred on a RIPTA bus," according to a release issued by Portsmouth police.
