MAJOR RECALL: Pet Products Possibly Contaminated with Salmonella

A number of name brands are included in the recall.

The FDA announced a major recall of pet products that affects a number of brands. Kasel Associated Industries of Denver is voluntarily recalling all products manufactured at its Denver facility from April 20, 2012 to Sept. 19, 2012 because of possible Salmonella contamination. The brands included in the recall are Boots & Barkley, BIXBI, Nature’s Deli, Colorado Naturals, Petco, and Best Bully Stick items, according to the FDA. The FDA reported that Kasel has not received any reports of illnesses because of the possible contamination. According to the FDA: Salmonella can sicken animals that eat these products and humans are at risk for salmonella poisoning from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly …

FDA Shuts Down Peanut Butter Plant to Trader Joe's, Whole Foods

The Sunland Inc. plant that distributes products to Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Sprouts, Target, Safeway and others is linked to Salmonella contamination that made at least 41 people ill in 20 states.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration this week that it has blocked food distribution from the Sunland Inc. peanut butter plant in New Mexico whose products were subject to a wide recall in recent months because of salmonella contamination. The various types of Sunland peanut butter products—sold under several brands by major food retailers, including Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Sprouts, Target and Safeway—had been part of a voluntary recall that began in September and later was expanded to include other nut butters as well as processed nuts and peanuts. RECALL: Two Dog Treats Sold at Target

Two types of treats are being recalled because of possible salmonella contamination.

Kasel Associated Industries is voluntarily recalling its Boots & Barkley Roasted American Pig Ears and Boots & Barkley American Variety Pack Dog Treats because of possible salmonella contamination. The products were distributed nationally through Target stores in August 2012, according to the FDA.  According to the FDA: Salmonella can sicken animals that eat these products and humans are at risk for salmonella poisoning from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the pet products or any surfaces exposed to these products.  Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or…

Mass Boy Gets Salmonella; Peanut Butter Recall Expands to Target, Walmart

The voluntary recall of salmonella-contaminated peanut and almond butter now includes more than 70 products.

The voluntary recall of salmonella-tainted peanut and almond butter has expanded beyond Trader Joe’s stores to include more than 70 products sold nationwide. Thirty people across 19 states have reported salmonella food poisoning that was later linked to the contaminated nut butters, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Stores that carry products named in the recall include Target, Whole Foods, Wal-mart and GNC. The almond and peanut butters were manufactured between May 1 and Sept. 24. Sunland, Inc. is the manufacturer of the peanut and almond butter, which are sold under a variety of brand names, including Target's Archer Farms brand and Earth Balance. Late July Organic Snacks issued a recall for organic mini peanut butter sandwich crackers.
