Mt. Hope biology students work with Save Bristol Harbor to study changes in Bristol's Silver Creek.
Typically a large group of high school students leaving the building midday and heading to the shore would be a problem, however, the students from Susan Costa's Mt. Hope High marine science class are going to the water for a different reason. Every three weeks or so, the class heads to Silver Creek in Bristol to continue their work on a project with educators from Save the Bay and Save Bristol Harbor. Working with their teacher Ms. Costa, along with Save the Bay educator Mary Horrigan and volunteers from Save Bristol Harbor, the students are testing water salinity, tide height, cataloging marsh grasses, and learning firsthand how fragile the waterfront ecosystems of Bristol and Warren can be.
