Bristol Marine Bids for Warren Mill

The local company hopes to preserve and create 400 jobs in Warren.

For the last several years, rumors have swirled about what will become of the former American Tourister building in Warren. A local company believes it has the answer. Bristol Marine Holdings, LLC, a local boating and real estate investment company, has entered a bid to acquire the former Warren Manufacturing Company mill, Bristol Marine President Andrew Tyska announced this week. The company would renovate the building to provide space for small, local businesses, according to a company press release. "Our plan is to support small businesses, preserve existing jobs, and attract new exciting employment opportunities and workforce training facilities to the Warren waterfront," Tyska said in a release. Well this is interesting! I think this plan could have potential, although I am concerned about how many businesses are in a rush to move to warren, even if the space is catered to them... I think we still should have allowed the plan to turn all of the mill into condo's with two additional floors, making it a beautiful landmark, but that didn't go through unfortunately. Warren Mill Hits the Market

The Warren Manufacturing Company fell into receivership last month, eastbayri.com reports, forcing the sale.

The American Tourister/Samsonite mill is on the market after the mill's owner, MMF Realty LLC, fell into receivership lasty month, reports eastbayri.com. The state has appointed a receiver to handle the sale of the mill, officially named the Warren Manufacturing Company mill. The massive propety along the Warren River is appraised at about $7 million. The buildings on Bowen, Main and Water streets encompass more than 500,000 square feet of space. I plead with the residents of Warren to fight against any condo development. You need a real business or businesses with real jobs that pay real money not minimum wage to move into that building. With condos you won't have that & it's not going to help hold the line on your property taxes. The only one making out will be the developer & any realestate people involved.   more ›
