The two local departments are participating in tomorrow's "Prescription Drug Take Back Day," scheduled for 10 am to 2 pm.
The Bristol Police Department and Warren Police Department will once again take part in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, scheduled for Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm at each town's police headquarters. According to Rhode Island Atty. Gen. Peter Kilmartin, Rhode Islanders have disposed of more than 6,000 pounds of prescription drugs since the program began in 2010. Kilmartin noted that abuse of prescription drugs "is becoming an epidemic" in Rhode Island, and is listed as the number-one cause of death in the state. “The non-medical use of prescription drugs is a growing public safety issue, leading to accidental poisoning, overdose and abuse. In fact, non-medical use of prescription drugs ranks second only to marijuana as the …

A young driver apparently over-corrected on Water Street and struck The Square Peg restaurant over the weekend.
The Square Peg restaurant on Water Street was closed Monday, after the building was struck by a car on Saturday afternoon around 3 pm. Warren Police Lt. Roy Borges said the driver, a teenage girl, apparently over-corrected as she turned from Miller Street onto Water Street and saw traffic approaching. "She just kept turning, and her vehicle hit the building," Borges explained. Large sheets of plywood patched the side of the restaurant where the refrigerators and other storage is located. The owners of the restaurant posted a note on Facebook announcing the closure, as well as a photo of the car parked in the side of the building. No injuries were reported, and the restaurant is expected to reopen Tuesday, according to a sign posted on …

The Rhode Island State Police issued a call for help in identifying the caller, who said "the Mexican gangs" were "out to get" state troopers.
Rhode Island State Police Col. Steven O'Donnell issued a request on Apr. 3 asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect who called the Warren Police Department and threatened state officers. According to O'Donnell, the caller contacted the local department on Feb. 8, the day after Benjamin Servideo, 24, of Newport, pleaded guilty to two traffic violations stemming from a fatal car accident in East Greenwich. Rhode Island Atty. Gen. Peter Kilmartin and the state police declined to file criminal charges against Servideo in the accident, which killed Sullynette Sanchez, 23, of Providence. At the time, Sanchez was eight months pregnant. Doctors delivered the baby, but he died two weeks later. "State Police officers will be …
