About 30 residents attended the Thursday night session to discuss the Bristol County Water Authority's planned 28-percent water rate increase over the next five years.
In what appeared to be the final public hearing before a scheduled meeting next week on proposed water rate increases, the board of the Bristol County Water Authority met at Warren Town Hall on Thursday night. Some 30 residents attended the session, with about a half-dozen addressing the board about the proposed rate hikes — 12 percent for fiscal 2013 and 4 percent in each of the next four years — and raising other issues about the tri-town agency's management. At the start of the meeting, Executive Director Pamela Marchand spoke about the BCWA's strategic plan. Following its request for a 31-percent rate increase over the next five years, the Bristol County Water Authority is scheduled to hold a public hearing on the proposal on Thursday night, Jan. 3, at Warren Town Hall. During the agency's meeting held Dec. 19 in Barrington, Executive Director Pamela Marchand told members of the Bristol, Warren, and Barrington Town Councils that the rate hikes are needed to keep BCWA financially stable. Marchand told the councilors that BCWA "will run out of cash by the end of next year" if the towns do not contribute more. Former Town Manager Michael Abbruzzi will temporarily work as the town's assistant Manager.
The town of Warren will temporarily see an old face back in Town Hall to assist the interim Town Manager with town bond finances. The town of Warren has taken on former Town Manager Michael Abbruzzi has an assistant Manager for the town to aid interim Town Manager Thomas Gordon in dealing with some of the town's capital bonds. According to East Bay Newspapers, Abbruzzi will be part time and will be paid $45 an hour for a maximum of 15 hours per week. According to Cathie Tattrie of the Warren Town Council, Abbruzzi's temporary part-time position is not one that needs additional funding as it fills a void in the Town Hall. Photographs of 21 artists from Warren are now on display at the Warren Town Hall.
Photographs of 21 Warren artists are now on display in the Warren Town Hall as part of a Warren Arts Initiative project to put a face with the name of local artists. The Warren Arts Initiative, a work group of the Economic Development Board set up the exhibit and hosted an opening reception on Thursday evening. According to Diane Horton, one of the event organizers, the exhibit was created to showcase the artists of Warren. "Artists are such a large part of the community in Warren," Horton said, noting that the results of their survey to create a database of Warren artists revealed that there are more than 200 artists in the area.
