DOD Donates Quinta-Gamelin Building for Bristol Community Center

The DOD will pass the keys of the Quinta-Gamelin facility to Bristol town officials during an official transfer ceremony on Tuesday at noon.

Seven years after the US Department of Defense officially closed the Quinta-Gamelin Army Reserve building in Colt State Park, Bristol is ready to take ownership, reports Eastbayri.com.

In a ceremony on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at noon, the DOD will present the keys to the building, which sits beside the entrance to Colt State Park, to Walter Burke, director to the Bristol Parks and Recreation Department. The National Park Service is sponsoring the transfer in ownership of Quinta-Gamelin - ensuring that the building will always be used as a community center.

Over the next year, the building will undergo a $1 million renovation project. Quinta-Gamelin will be transformed into a town fitness and gathering center complete with a gymnasium, fitness machines, a meeting room, an arts and crafts space and a senior program - to name a few.

The community center will tie in to the East Bay Bike Path, as the state Department of Environmental Management has reportedly committed to constructing a connection pathway.
